Truro wins $515,173 in state grants for Walsh Property wastewater work
Truro announced Oct. 27 it received two state grants totaling $515,173 to fund wastewater planning and permitting for the Walsh Property.
The Town of Truro announced Oct. 27 that it has been awarded two state grants totaling $515,173 to advance wastewater planning and permitting for the Walsh Property.
The first grant, $65,173, comes from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities' Seasonal Communities Grant Program. It will support pre-construction activities, including design and permitting, for a wastewater treatment facility at the Walsh Property. The grant was written by Housing Coordinator Katie Halvorsen with assistance from DPW Director Jarrod Cabral. This marks the second time Truro has received Seasonal Communities funding since the town accepted that designation at the 2025 Annual Town Meeting.
The second grant, $450,000, comes from the Executive Office of Economic Development's Rural Development Fund, part of the Commonwealth's Community One Stop for Growth program. It will fund development of a wastewater disposal plan and groundwater impact study for the Walsh Overlay District. The town said advanced wastewater treatment is needed to support planned housing and mixed-use development at the property while protecting groundwater and the public water supply. The application was prepared by a staff team led by Temporary Assistant Town Manager Rebecca Roughley.
Truro has now received six Community One Stop Program awards over the past six years, totaling $2.1 million, according to the announcement.
The town said it is grateful to the Commonwealth for supporting its efforts to bring the community's vision for the Walsh Property to fruition while protecting groundwater resources.
