Truro Library Opens Garden Art Community Show

TRURO — A new community art show opens in the Truro Public Library's Anne H. Brock Room this week, and the library rounds out August with a run of lectures and family programs, the closest thing to a headline on an otherwise quiet Sunday into Monday in Truro.

COMMUNITY & ARTS The Truro Public Library says "Garden Art," a community show, is now on view in the Anne H. Brock Room, giving local artists a space to display garden-themed work. Separately, the library's "Plant a Seed, Read" initiative, made possible by the Friends of the Truro Library, is underway as part of the library's ongoing youth and community programming.

The library also has two lecture-style programs on tap for Tuesday, August 25. A virtual talk, "When Trees Testify: Reclaiming America's Black Botanical Legacy," features Beronda Montgomery discussing Black botanical history. The same day, the library hosts "Women, Piracy and the Rise of Feminism," a talk exploring the history of women in piracy and its ties to early feminist movements.

COMING UP In-person early voting ahead of the September 1 state primary continues at Town Hall on Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25.

At the library, Tuesday, August 25 also brings a Mahjong session and the Children's Community Garden Group. On Wednesday, August 26, the library hosts the Stay Strong Cancer Support Group and a Sing-Along/Play-Time session with Paul Kehoe.
